As we strive for balance in our vineyard ecosystem, we recognize those insects with both beneficial and challenging attributes. Just as ripeness sets in, the red-cloaked lady beetle and her Vespid sidekick begin to prey on St. Croix’s thin skins. Their presence signals the start of a narrow window in which these sweet, tender berries must be picked. As this elegant juice takes form, messy field-sorting and wasp stings become a distant memory. Our St. Croix has thin skins but deep roots.
